Rodent-Proof Older Jackson Brick Homes

Why older homes have more entry points

Older homes with mature trees also face roof rats from above. Check the soffits, gable vents, and the roofline for gaps, and trim tree limbs back so rats lose the bridge onto the house. Seal openings with materials rodents cannot easily chew.
Do the sealing after trapping out any rodents already inside, so you are not closing them in the walls or attic.
Make it stick
Rodent-proofing holds up better with a few habits: keep woodpiles and clutter away from the foundation, secure trash, and store dry goods and pet food in sealed containers. If the home has many entry points, an experienced local exterminator can map and seal them as one job.
